EXCLUSIVE: The level of The Acolyte will not restart, with Lucasfilm opting not to proceed with a second season of the Star Wars spin-off starring Amandla Stenberg, authorities tell Deadline.
Word of the judgment comes better than a month after the eight-episode foremost season of the sequence from designer, executive producer, director, and showrunner Leslye Headland enveloped its run on Disney+.
The news is not completely shocking. The Acolyte did OK with analysts, with 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, but separate Star Wars fans, which was echoe in its general viewership.
Driven by inquisitiveness into the esteemed franchise, The Acolyte got off to a robust start when it was established on June 4 with two seizures, generating 4.8M views in its first daylight on the streamer to rate as the greatest sequel premiere on Disney+ this year. The total rose to 11.1 million pictures globally after five daytimes of streaming. Corroborating Disney’s data, the sequel made its debut on Nielsen’s Top 10 Sources diagram in its premiere week at No. 7 (488 million minutes considered), ascending to No. 6 the subsequent week.

But The Acolyte could not maintain the momentum, sinking out of the Top 10 in Week 3 and remaining off before producing at No. 10 after the departure of the finale (335M minutes, acknowledged to be the most downward for a Star Wars series ending).
Like fellow international streamers Prime Video and Netflix, Disney+ has a high viewership verge for restoring high-end, big-budget sequels that cost well beyond $100M per season to create.
In discussions, Headland has announced that she has raised her thoughts for a second season and has transferred her yearnings for a renewal.
Lucasfilm’s first — and most prosperous to date — Disney+ series, The Mandalorian, is moving on, traveling over to elements with the forthcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu. Ahsoka, the organization’s series that flow The Acolyte, has been continue for a second season.
